Location: Chicago, IL

Governor Pat Quinn's bid for re-election was endorsed today by a diverse group of faith and community leaders.

Members of the group supporting the governor include: Reverend Albert Tyson, Chief Apostle William McCoy, Bishop Claude Porter, Father Michael Pfleger, Elder Michael Eddy, among many others.

Today's endorsement adds to growing momentum toward Governor Quinn's re-election.

"I am extremely honored to have the support of so many of our faith leaders who hold our communities together and keep our families strong," Governor Quinn said. "Illinois is making a comeback, but we have more work to do to build an economy that works for everyone. With the support of these leaders today and the people of Illinois, we'll finish the job in my next term."

Bishop Gordon White praised Governor Quinn's fight to raise Illinois' minimum wage to $10 per hour - and the Bishop opposed efforts to lower its current $8.25 level.

"Through his actions, and not just his words, Governor Quinn has shown he understands the value of increasing the minimum wage. He knows it is a floor that protects all workers and that justice requires that it must be raised with all haste to protect the working poor wage-earners of Illinois," Bishop White said.

And Father Michael Pfleger lauded Governor Quinn's fight to ensure all children have access to a great education.

"Governor Quinn promised to make education for all - and not just the wealthy - one of his top priorities. And he has delivered, even in the face of efforts to enact heartless cuts to public education. From early childhood, to after-school programs, to college opportunities, he has shown a unique understanding that education is the best path out of poverty for communities in need. Our Governor will never stop fighting to ensure every child has access to a great education."
